Committee of recommendation
The work of CHEMPS is pretty unique. That's why we asked well-known and less known Dutch people to recommend CHEMPS in 7 sentences. It's a mixed group of people: an ex-Dutch champion, a Dutch champion, a 'senior' in believing (if you can call a preacher that) and a 'new-believer'.
Do you wonder why CHEMPS should be supported?

Nel Mewe-van Welzenis
Is an ex-swimming champion who belonged to the Dutch swimming top even before the war. Because of the war though, she couldn't participate in the big international tournaments. After the war she made up for this by becoming a member of the jury at different big tournaments like the Olympic Games. What's CHEMPS to her?

Frans Boer
Is a preacher in the Reformed 'Oosterkerk' in Zeist. A vibrant church with a lot of moving people. He has a lot of feeling for what the youth is interested in. And he knows how to move people out of his Big Love. So what about CHEMPS? |

Wouter Lemckert
Is a fanatic badminton lover. In 1999 he joined the badminton camp as a participant. He still talks about it: "I learned a lot and I heard a lot." When he really got to know and accept God shortly after this, it was clear to him he wanted to help with the same badminton camps. A recommendation for CHEMPS inside out!

Michiel Löschner
Is a Dutch running champion at the 800 meters in 1998. He won many honour rolls after that. But not only that: for the last couple of years he has been working together with CHEMPS. As a running-trainer he accompanied every badminton camp so far. So CHEMPS is something for him?

Nel Mewe - van Welzenis,
Ex Dutch swimming champion and a jury member at the Olympic games,
says something about CHEMPS in 7 sentences:
"An organisation like CHEMPS is seriously needed in this hard world sometimes. CHEMPS gives the sportsmen power to express their believe. CHEMPS stimulate young sportsmen to handle their sport right. CHEMPS wants to guide young sportsmen in choosing between sports and their faith. CHEMPS brings faith and sport together. CHEMPS tries to convince the sportsmen their talent is given by God. That's what CHEMPS is about."

Dominee Frans Boer,

about CHEMPS in 7 sentences:
"Je bent tiener, dan leef je in de wereld van school, uitgaan, sport en muziek:.
C hristelijk onderwijs een mooi woord - maar: School is balen.
H et is de kerk die God ter sprake brengt - maar: kerk is balen. Niet je wereld.
E en disco is een plaats om ‘uit' je dak te gaan -
M aar in een disco kun je niet praten.....
P uike sport is: Bewegen, losraken, open gaan, anderen ontmoeten....
S port dus: Maar wie brengt God ter sprake waar tieners WEL opengaan?"

Wouter Lemckert,
First a participant and now a leader at the badminton camp, says something
about CHEMPS in 7 sentences:
"I find CHEMPS a very good organisation because, in particular Christian sportsmen, have a chance to express their believe. For example; if Christian sportsmen feel uncomfortable sitting with non-Christian sportsmen, CHEMPS will support them.
But what's even more important is that Gods Spirit can work for non-Christian people as well, which is the case during the badminton camps. Here the non-Christians have the opportunity of getting to know and getting inspired by Our Lord in their "own" world (sportsworld).
You have to try to make God well known everywhere and CHEMPS is unique in doing that, because of the combination with sports. Another good thing is that CHEMPS is aimed at the youth, because they are the ones who are insecure or rebellious, so they are the perfect target.
I think it's a good way of talking about God's presence, involving young sportsmen from abroad, in order to let his presence be told not only in The Netherlands.

Michiel Löschner,
Dutch running Champion 800m in 1998,
says something about CHEMPS in 7 sentences:
""Sport is a language. To be fluent in this language can bridge the gap between Christians and the sports world. I believe that Christians and sportsmen can benefit from each other. Christians can learn to develop and use their talents they were given by the Creator in honour of him. Sportsmen can add an extra dimension to their sports activity. That extra dimension is to get to know Jesus Christ. The organisation CHEMPS forms an indispensable bridge between the sports world and Christians."
